…en it comes and what the diagnosis is. Alzheimer’s is one of the most devastating forms of dementia. I believe if I got this diagnosis I would stop eating. I watched several of my patients make this decision. It was agonizing for the families, but really, it was a merciful thing to do. It spared them the years of watching their loved one decline, and years of crushing caregiving.

You've written a thought-provoking article. I don't understand why families are so reluctant to let their family members with dementia leave this world. I'm not in favor of keeping people alive at all costs no matter what.
