Yes, I’m a member of the United Methodist Church and my gay friends in church are so upset. I’m trying to talk them out of leaving the church. The major reason the vote went the way it did was because of church delegates from other countries, primarily from Africa, who are still very conservative. If it had just been a vote of US churches the One Church Plan would have passed, I believe. There has been a sea change of opinion in the US church over the past ten years. But change comes slowly, and different people are on a different part of their spiritual journey. Our minister addressed our congregation after the vote and said, “Be sure you love the person you are talking to more than you love the argument you are making.”
