Yes, boundaries are important, but they should be coupled with kindness, understanding, and tolerance. We can begin to look at things in a new way. For instance, viewing a mother-in-law's desire to clean the house can be interpreted as interference and attempts at control, or as an older woman's attempts to help, to form a relationship, or to feel useful. You see how a minor shift in perspective can transform our responses?
