Why I’m Happy NewsBreak Ended My Base Pay

It’s like getting a new lease on life

This morning I woke to the greatest feeling. It took a few minutes to realize where it came from. I was happy not to be writing for NewsBreak anymore!

I got the email two days ago. They consider me a valued creator, are happy to have me in the creator program, I will get my own special icon (whatever that means), but the base pay per article is gone.

This wasn’t unexpected. A lot of NewsBreak writers had their base pay dropped several months ago and I couldn’t understand why mine wasn’t. Once a month, like clockwork, I would get an email explaining that this might be my last month of a guaranteed amount per article. They extended it on a month-by-month basis.

I’m not down on NewsBreak. They keep changing things up to try and maximize their revenue, which is what all businesses do. They just haven’t got the creator program figured out yet. They are still providing writers with an opportunity to gain experience, rub elbows with people in the community, add something to their resume and make a little income. If that’s your thing, go for it. That’s the positive side, and I don’t begrudge them.

For the first few months, I made good money. Not the tens of thousands some other NewsBreak writers talk about, but enough…
