What would you do if you helped someone and they took advantage of your generosity? They didn’t appreciate it, squandered it, and you had wasted your resources? This was the question I was asked in a job interview with the nonprofit charity I ended up working for. My answer was, “If ten people take advantage of me but I keep one person from falling through the cracks, the one person is worth it.” Tracy Stengel wrote a beautiful article about generosity that echoes this same sentiment.
