What a wonderful, poignant story. And why is it that these veterans, our fathers and grandfathers and fathers in law don’t want to talk about those experiences that so defined and shaped them? Should I have questioned more? Would they have opened up, or kept this significant part of their lives boxed away so that we only can glean the story in tattered newspaper articles or boxes of medals? I don’t understand. Thanks for this wonderful post.
