Universal Basic Income sounds wonderful in theory, but in actuality it hasn’t worked due to the inevitable tendency of our own human nature to be motivated by necessity rather than higher or more altruistic ideals. Our government provides the equivalent of UBI to Native Americans, with the result being that in too many instances this has killed incentive and led to a squandering of talent and ability. Another thing to consider is that sometimes truly great art and achievement are born from the very challenges and obstacles that would seem to be stumbling blocks to success. Insights and fortitude gained through overcoming life’s challenges can take us to deeper levels of wisdom that would not be plumbed if we were freed by government guaranteed income to indulge our artistic talents without the struggles that forge and shape our character.
