To me striving for equality of opportunity means doing away with legal barriers to success. For instance, making sure no one is discriminated against on the basis of race or religion. But equity of outcome is different entirely, because it means a redistribution of resources to reach this equitable outcome. To make sure everyone had the same income, or the same size house, something would have to be done to artifiicially produce this equity.
