The classics should never be banned. The Kite Runner, a great book, is required reading in our local high school. We want our children to learn about cultures, ideas, and to be exposed to a variety of viewpoints. We want them to read books that enlighten, enrich, inspire and educate, while provoking thought and discussion.

Question: Do you think there are any circumstances when a book should be kept out of elementary school libraries? Because this appears to be where a lot of the controversy has arisen. I'm wondering what a teacher with your passion and concern thinks. Are these parents totally ignorant and off the wall, or do they have any valid concerns?
