One interesting thing I came across in my research but didn't include in the article in the interest of brevity and focus was that there are genetic predispositions developed over time to certain diets. For instance, the Inuits and other indigenous peoples in arctic climates such as Greenland ate primarily whale meat and blubber along with other fish, but rarely ate a plant diet because of the difficulty of growing crops. Their systems became accustomed to and eventually thrived off this diet. So our bodies respond differently to foods based on many factors, including genetics.
