Thank you for taking time to read and respond Seth. I believe persecution of any group usually begins innocuously enough, by pitting of one group against another and demonizing a certain religion, ethnic group, or race.
Usually the mounting horror is not recognized until it's too late. For instance, the European Jews in the 1930's were initially barred from certain places. Then their businesses were trashed. Later, they were forced to wear a yellow star. And finally, they were consigned to ghettos, rounded up and murdered in one of the most horrible genocides in history.
To say that hostility to Christianity is increasing does not dilute the horror of the Jewish experience any more than saying Asians are discriminated against dilutes the Black experience.
People are, or should be, perceptive enough to recognize that there are many degrees of evil, and that one small seed of evil, planted in the human heart, can grow and spread its poisonous tentacles.
