Teaching was my husband's second career. He taught for 15 years, from 55 until he turned 70. He helped a lot of kids and still keeps up with them. Many have landed great jobs with big tech companies. But it was a constant struggle because of the disruptive ones. He is a big, rather formidable looking man, so he handled the aggressiveness better than some more easily-intimidated teachers. But even after winning teacher of the year twice, he was accused of racism by a parent because of trying to make sure their very intelligent child completed the homework and took all the tests.
