Seems like the extremists on both sides won't give an inch. The Collins Murkowski bill would have codified the language of Roe.

Some Republicans don't want an abortions for any reason whatsoever, even for an ectopic pregnancy or health of the mother, and some Democrats want abortions with no restrictions whatsoever.

But in this current environment, compromise is necessary to get anything passed. Lawmakers have always compromised in the past to get things done.
