Liberals have forsaken liberalism in their rush to label controversial ideas as hate speech or misinformation

Elon Musk doesn’t need me to defend him. He’s the richest man in the world.

But when I see articles claiming he is a threat to civilization, when I hear news that the president might investigate him, and when businesses exit Twitter as fast as rabbits fleeing a fox, I can’t help but marvel at the wrath stirred up by people who used to be liberal.

Before moving on to the fury against Elon, let’s examine what it means to be “liberal.” I consider myself liberal if you go by the Oxford dictionary definition:

“Willing to respect or accept behavior or opinions different from one’s own.

Open to new ideas.

Relating to or denoting a political and social philosophy that promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy, and free enterprise.”

But if this is what liberal means, the demonization of Elon Musk proves many Progressives are no longer liberal.

Consider his major transgression. He bought Twitter. He said he was doing it to promote free speech.
