I was so disappointed to hear about Ravi, and even more to hear that he didn't confess and try to make amends before he died. However, his downfall and that of many other evangelicals makes me wonder if our church model, based on raising certain Christain "leaders" to the level of superstar, is too far from the humble example Jesus set.

Instead of everyday, ordinary people, such as the disciples, loving Jesus and spreading the gospel, we have "experts" who garner fame and fortune from books published, etc.

Fame and adulation and success in this life almost always go to a person's head. We don't have to look any further than David. It seems if we don't keep it humble and grounded, we veer far off the path we started when we decided to follow Jesus.
