I truly hope so, David. I know where they (meaning those totally against any gun control) are coming from. I’ve researched it extensively, and I realize that many oppressive governments (Nazis, Russia, etc.) came into power after initiating strict gun control laws.
But I also know that countries such as Australia and Japan have gun control regulations and/or strict background checks that have allowed people to own guns, but those regulations have cut down on gun violence.
We have to get over this all or nothing approach, this fear of a slippery slope and this unwillingness to negotiate. Some people say gun control is a bandaid solution because it doesn’t address the real reasons for violence, but sometimes we need badaids to keep from bleeding out while the wound heals.
People have always had a penchant for violence. Just look at history! So we must act to curb those instincts.
