I think you'e tapped into one of the greatest delemmas of our time, which is lack of but need for a middle ground. It's not all one or the other, but somewhere in between, where people are recognized as having free agency, but there is also acknowledgement of a safety net. It's a fine balance that requires both freedom and compassion.
