I know I won’t convince you but I respect your willingness to engage in debate with someone whose philosophy you strongly disapprove. Faith is difficult in a world so filled with heartache and tragedy. I get that, and it’s a sentiment that’s dealt with over and over again throughout scripture. There really seems to be “nothing new under the sun” when it comes to faith, doubt, hardship and struggle.
My favorite biblical translation (from which the previous quotes were taken) is The Message by Peterson, who translated it from the original Greek and Hebrew into modern-day vernacular. If you get a chance, read it sometime (at least a couple of chapters) and tell me what you think. I imagine you’re well-read and have read some other versions. You seem like you have thought a lot about this.
