Hi John, thanks for reading and responding. I'm sorry I've taken so long to get back with you, but I've been out of town and away from Medium a few days.
I believe faith in God means trying to follow his words rather than following some people's interpretations of religion. People, we will always, to a certain extent, mess up.
But here is just a sampling of scripture passages I believe would lead our word to be a better place if we observed them:
“You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who your really are, and your place in God’s family.” Jesus’s words in Matthew 5:9
“And if someone takes unfair advantage of you, use the occasion to practice the servant life. No tit for tat stuff. Live generously.” Jesus’s words in Matthew 5:42
“If you’re out on the street and an old enemy accosts you, Don’t lose a minute. Make the first move; make things right with him.” Jesus’s words in Matthew 5:25
“Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults unless, of course, you want the same treatment. The critical spirit has a way of boomeranging.” Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:1
“Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence. This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second alongside it; love others as well as you love yourself. These two commandments are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.” Jesus’s words in Matthew 22: 37-40
“Love never gives up, Love cares more for others than for self, Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have, Love doesn’t strut, Love doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others. It isn’t always me first, Love doesn’t fly off the handle, doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, doesn’t revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back, but keeps going to the end.” Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 13
I use The Message, which is aversion of the bible translated from the original Hebrew and written in our current way of speaking.
