Great article, Beth. You gave some great examples! My mother drove until she was 99. My FIL drove up until the last couple of months of his life when he got too sick to drive, and he was 92 at the time. I don't know the answer either, because people hate to give up their autonomy. Living in walkable area or a senior living faciity that provides transporation, moving in with family, hiring a person to drive you around a few times a week; Those are a few things I can think of, but it would one great thing now is that groceries and most anything else can be deliered right to the front door.
