After I quit my business job a consultant asked me if I would meet with the managers of a struggling business and give them some insights about why my business had been so successful and how they might increase theirs. This would be done as a volunteer, of course.

My husband warned me not to do it without charging a fee. He said, they won’t value what you say. I ignored his advice and met with them. I worked up a great plan for their business after doing much research into their stats, needs, etc. They not only didn’t take my advice. They didn’t even thank me for the report. They didn’t value somebody who wasn’t charging them for the work.
