Good post, Michael, and you’re right. Besides, how do you evaluate adversity? What about the child who survives childhood cancer? How about the child of a single parent, the child of divorce, or the child who has a mentally ill parent but is not a child of divorce? What about the kid who is bullied, or the foster child? I’m afraid this embrace of subjectivity will devolve into an arena to nurture mediocrity.
