Fascinating article. I disagree with those who believe autism is just a different way of being that doesn’t need to be cured. Autism at its severest level is an extremely debilitating condition that renders the victim unable to care for himself or communicate. Family life is limited and defined by the constant care of the autistic child. The child is growing physically but still in need of car restraints, bolted doors to keep him safe from wandering, and toilet training, even at 12 years old, is a distant dream.
