Doctrine should never be used as an instrument of violence. I didn’t vote for Trump, but I didn’t think Hillary had admirable character, either. And I agree with you that Christians need to do a lot better in this country about modeling Christ’s way. However, scripture, history and the example in other more repressive countries show us that regardless of the circumstances Christians create, people somewhere will turn on them. People turned on Jesus and all his apostles, and I don’t think human nature has changed much since then. But that being said, Christians need to use the great freedoms we now enjoy to re-emphasize the value of humility and love. Thanks for responding, Paul.
