There is a better way

The woman across from me was dark-skinned with a cascade of curls. A blonde woman tried to corral a rambunctious toddler, and two tattooed teenagers dug into burgers and fries.

Have you ever watched people in an airport? They are a collage of colors, shapes, sizes. How boring if they all looked like me!

But these Medium headlines indicate that differences breed hostility instead of creating wonder and delight:

The Old White Guys are Terrified

Why are We Asking Why Black Immigrants do Better than Black Americans?

Why Can’t I Travel Like My White Friends Can?

Yet what would happen if we heeded these words?

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34

Or this:

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” Philippians 2:3
