Are Boosted Americans More Likely to Get Covid?

Surprising report leaves experts wondering why

According to CBS news, for the week of April 23, the rate of Covid-19 in boosted Americans was more than double the rate of infections in those who were vaccinated but unboosted.

Nobody seems to be sure why, but a few theories are being floated.

One is that there’s a higher prevalence of previous infection among the unvaccinated and unboosted.

Or maybe boosted Americans have abandoned prevention behaviors like wearing masks, according to the CDC.

Another theory is that boosted people are more likely to seek out a lab test instead of a home test, so more Covid cases are registered among the boosted.

Dr. Peter Marks, the FDA’s top vaccines official, said at a recent webinar hosted by the American Medical Association, “I do believe that, potentially by the 2023–2024 season, we’ll start to see second generation SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.”

The good news is that rates of deaths and hospitalizations remained the lowest among the boosted.
